The Nassau Guardian

About The Nassau Guardian

The Nassau Guardian has been a part of the Bahamian landscape for more than a century and a half. It has the distinction of being one of the oldest newspapers in the world, being senior to the New York Times (1851), the Wall Street Journal (1889) and many other of the leading publications in the developed world.

Currently the Guardian, and its sister publication the Freeport News, are now fully Bahamian-owned for the first time in more than 30 years. The Freeport News is Grand Bahama's first newspaper and has been published by the Guardian since 1970.

The Guardian was first published on Saturday, November 23, 1844 under the editorship of Edwin Moseley, a young British journalist and teacher. In
his first editorial, Mr Moseley undertook to "stand up in the defence of truth and justice whenever they are assailed."

Our goal is to achieve editorial, photographic and production excellence, building on our 159-year legacy as the national newspaper of the Bahamas.
