The commitment by Aviation Minister Glenys Hanna-Martin that the government had completed design works and begun the structural design of an 18,000-square-foot terminal at New Bight, Cat Island has been welcomed by the group building the Cat Island Golf and Beach Resort.

In a release issued yesterday, Cat Island Partners Ltd. (CIPL) welcomed the government’s commitment to build the terminal and related infrastructure at New Bight to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) classification 3C as “a critical first step”, and recommitted CIPL to building a fixed-base operation (FBO) once the airport is done.

CIPL partner Heath E. Shelton assured that detailed planning continues on the Cat Island Golf and Beach Resort and it will soon become a reality, and he asserted the continued commitment of Cat Island Partners to complete the project.

Shelton also announced yesterday the retention of investment bank Taylor Frères Americas as financial advisors to the resort’s team.

“Taylor Frères was extremely pleased to learn of the Bahamian government’s confirmation and commitment to rebuild the airport at New Bight on Cat Island. The decision to upgrade the terminal and air works to FAA and ICAO classification 3C is a critical first step towards making the airport suitable for commercial air traffic,” the financiers said.

“The government has recently demonstrated a keen awareness of commercial airlift as the lifeblood of any tourism-based economy with their commitment to expand the South Eleuthera Airport to sustain the Four Seasons Resort development on Eleuthera, and we look forward to benefitting from similar support on Cat Island in the months and years ahead.

“Our client CIPL would like to reiterate its commitment to build the private FBO once the Bahamian government breaks ground on the New Bight airport project.”

Additionally, world-renowned golf course architect Rees Jones added: "Golf is an international game. The types of players that the project's affiliation with Rees Jones Design and the PGA will bring to Cat Island are accustomed to airports with an array of commercial and private travel alternatives supported by modern conveniences such as those proposed by the government in its revitalization of the New Bight Airport, which we heartedly endorse."

CIPL said that additional milestones for the Cat Island PGA Golf and Beach Resort will be announced as they develop in the coming months.
