Having made his share of contributions to his native archipelago, he is well-known and respected for his work, said speaker after speaker at the luncheon, held at the Wyndham Nassau Beach.

He has been at the forefront of all major agreements, expected to set The Bahamas on a successful road to economic growth, creating jobs for Bahamians, and opportunities for the country itself.

Prime Minister Perry Christie described Bethel as one who brings a level of sophistication to the most complicated and intricate of situations.

"He has an amazing story, said the Prime Minister.

"Sir Baltron brought the real definition of tourism to the country." Robert Sands, Baha Mar's Vice President of Administration and External Affairs, defined Sir Baltron as a man who made a tremendous contribution to the development of The Bahamas.

"A genuine, true Bahamian and an award that is very well deserved."

Friend and fellow employee, George A. Smith, Chairman of The Hotel Corporation also shared his views on the honouree.

"I think Sir Baltron Bethel is probably the best example of what a public office in the Bahamas ought to be," he said. "He served this country with great distinction. In his multi-faceted life, he has contributed much to the growth of The Bahamas and its economy."

In response to being recognized for his loyalty and good works, Bethel said he looks forward to further service in aid of his country.

"For me it is a signal to young people that you can achieve and that though you may be working on and off for a reward," he said, "you can accomplish anything that you set your heart and your mind to.

"It has been exciting to serve this country."
