Bahamas' corporate world continues to support Haiti

By Inderia Saunders ~ Guardian Business Reporter inderia@nasguard.com:

Donations for Haiti are mounting — and fast: Two major corporate sponsors now coming out of the block pledging tens of thousands to that country's relief fund.

Fidelity Bank announced yesterday that it had partnered with Western Union to double any contributions made to the Haiti Relief Fund it launched immediately after the devastation in Haiti. That's an amount that now stands at $41,000 with the potential to double to more than $80,000.

"This is a human tragedy at an unprecedented level," stated Fidelity's President Gregory Bethel. "We have to show our support in a tangible, meaningful way to demonstrate to our Haitian brothers and sisters that we care and are ready to help. Our Fidelity Group employees in The Bahamas and Cayman have started the ball rolling, with donations which will be doubled by the company and doubled yet again by Western Union."

It's an initiative that also comes as the Nassau Airport Development Company presented a check for more than $20,000 to the Bahamas Red Cross Haiti Relief Fund.

NAD staff members recently formed the NAD Helping Haiti committee with the goal of raising $5000. In this case, company executives also agreed to match whatever staff raised dollar for dollar

"In the aftermath of the earthquake, people from all around the company kept asking what they could to do help Haiti," said John Terpstra, vice president of Operations at NAD. "Our executive team was so inspired by the response."
