Bahamian law firm part of exclusive conference

By Scott Armstrong ~ Guardian Business Editor ~ scott@nasguard.com:

An international legal conference is coming to The Bahamas this week, and one young law firm will be sitting around the "invitation only" table.

Partners of Chancellors Chambers will join scores of other top attorneys from around the world at the meeting of the Board of Directors and Financial Services Conference of Meritas Law Firms Worldwide, at Atlantis, Paradise Island.

In a statement Chancellors said: "It is a great honor for the board of Meritas to accede to our request and host its annual meeting in The Bahamas this year.

"We are also pleased that the financial services and Creditors Rights and Bankruptcy Sections of Meritas have also agreed to host their conference meeting in The Bahamas.

"As the exclusive Bahamian member of Meritas Law Firms worldwide, we understand the responsibility we have in representing The Bahamas in this important forum as we discuss substantive issues relating to Financial Services."

Meritas is an association of full-service international business law firms and has approximately 7,000 experienced lawyers serving 232 markets - all rigorously qualified, independent and collaborative.

In smaller markets like The Bahamas, Meritas selects membership from only one firm. The selection of Chancellors Chambers four years ago was a major achievement for the young firm.

Founded by Kenred M. A. Dorsett, Chancellors Chambers is comprised of experienced attorneys from established law offices who preferred the aggressive, young corporate culture dedicated to immediate response and community activism.

The Agenda for the Mertias Conference will include a panel discussion on the Financial Services Industry in Offshore jurisdictions. Chancellors Chambers along with affiliate member firms from Cayman Islands, Turks & Caicos, Bermuda and Panama will present to members of the Financial Services and Creditors Rights and Bankruptcy Sections. We have also completed a resource guide on Offshore Financial Services, which will be launched at the conference and distributed to our members and their clients throughout the world.

Kenred M. A. Dorsett, the firm's Managing Partner, will present at the Conference and welcome the Board of Directors and Sections as the host firm. The firm will use the gathering as an opportunity to re-assert The Bahamas' commitment to financial services.
