New four-lane bridge for Grand Bahama

A new bridge is being planned for the Grand Lucayan Waterway.

The Grand Bahama Development Company (DEVCO) and The Grand Bahama Port Authority, Limited (GBPA) have announced plans for the construction of the bridge, which is intended to make travel to the eastern part of the island easier. Its construction will also continue DEVCO and GBPA's vision for Grand Bahama's future development and complete the Grand Bahama Highway (GBH).

The bridge will begin at the intersection of GBH and Fortune Bay Drive, will span the channel opening and will then continue on the east side of GBH.

The bridge's construction is expected to commence in approximately three months and will be of concrete construction, allowing for the safe transport of heavy equipment, machinery and materials to east Lucaya and east Grand Bahama for future developments.

This new project is anticipated to provide approximately 45 -50 new construction jobs for the duration of the project and will provide a stimulus for the local economy.

Its construction will provide a very necessary alternative route across the Grand Lucayan Waterway, as the existing Casuarina Bridge is almost 40 years old.

Announcing the new bridge during a recent press conference in the above photo are Mr. Graham Torode, President of The Grand Bahama Development Company; Sir Jack Hayward, Honorary Chairman of The Grand Bahama Port Authority, Limited and Mr. Hannes Babak, Chairman of Port Group Limited and The Grand Bahama Port Authority, Limited.
