THREE new non-stop flight services to the Family Islands have been launched by American Eagle Airlines from Miami, the company has announced.
The regional affiliate of American Airlines yesterday began non-stop jet service from Miami International Airport (MIA) to Eleuthera and Treasure Cay, and has announced it will also begin a new service to Governor's Harbour, The Bahamas, beginning on November 20.
The announcement comes just a day after The Nassau Guardian revealed Bahamasair was looking at changes to its schedules to help tourists connect better with the Family Islands.
It in turn was responding to calls from Tourism and Aviation Minister Vincent Vanderpool-Wallace for The Bahamas to make the most of the opportunities presented by the multiplicity of destinations within the jurisdiction.
The three new routes add to the four Bahamas services already run by American Eagle to Nassau, Freeport, Marsh Harbour and Georgetown.
Peter Dolara, American's Senior Vice President based in Miami said: "As we celebrate the 20th anniversary of our Miami hub, we are delighted to launch service to these cities. With these additions, American and American Eagle will operate 276 daily flights from our Miami hub, the most flights ever from Miami.
"Connecting small and medium-sized cities to American's global network is one of Eagle's key missions, and these new flights are sure to benefit customers in South Florida and throughout American's network."
