A NEW educational arm of The Bahamas Chamber of Commerce is being launched to better prepare companies in dealing with the mechanics of business.
To be called the Chamber Institute, its kick-off unofficially started yesterday with the Chamber's guerilla marketing seminar, said Chamber President Khaalis Rolle.
"Our members have been asking for these types of activities, so we decided to preempt the launch and host this marketing seminar," he told Guardian Business. "The official launch takes place in December. There are a lot of things we're trying to put together in such a short time frame."
They are projects that will come under the Chamber's Education and Labor committee, with a full slate of programs for businesses to be rolled out under its Chamber Institute. The institute's events will be open to the general public, said the president, with Chamber members getting first preference.
Rolle is now pointing to the reception of yesterday's event as evidence of a need for the type of continuing education seminars the Chamber Institute will spearhead. Attendees shelled out anywhere from $150 (members) to $175 (non-members) for Thursday's seminar, despite tough economic times for most businesses.
"The state of economy is one of the issues that really highlighted this," he said. "Marketing is one of the very important criteria for businesses and many Bahamians are just now recognizing that.
"And there will be a lot more topics for us to cover."
