Sherman “Tank” Williams and Ryan McKenzie jump out in the new ratings released by the Bahamas Boxing Commission. The national body that controls professional boxing recently released ratings and declared Williams and McKenzie champions. Williams, who without a doubt is the most successful heavyweight Bahamian boxer ever, never actually fought for the local heavyweight crown. Nevertheless, the Commission made the decision to name him champion. The light heavyweight division is now ruled by Ryan McKenzie. He is an up and coming boxer who is presently undefeated at 8-0 and represents one of the finest ring talents to come along in recent years. The Commission also declared a number of divisions vacant of a champion, paving the way for demand title bouts. To add excitement to the pro scene, the Commission no doubt plans to interact with and encourage promotional groups to stage title bouts and also elimination matches. Also, the pro boxing community will be held tightly to the rules that relate to ensuring the safety of boxers. In that light, boxers and their managers will risk suspension locally and worldwide if they do not conform to the notification rule. All boxers are to inform the Commission of upcoming bouts. Failing to do this could result in suspension of the boxers and the local managers/agents who sign on for fights outside of the country. The position being taken by the Commission is all about creating a culture that will be less flexible and put the national professional boxing program more in line with international organizations at this time.
