The Junior Baseball League of Nassau (JBLN) has already completed its fifth week of regular season play. Last week, the league was on a break due to mid-term breaks. The league has seen some exciting action locally, and players abroad have excelled. Two of the high school players abroad, Byron Ferguson Jr. (Trinity Christian Academy - Lake Worth, FL.) and Theodore ‘Trae’ Sweeting (Christ School - North Carolina), were both invited to attend the Under Armor Pre-season Tournament, where the top 100 prospects in the nation were selected to perform. Sweeting, a catcher, was ranked in the top 10 players in his class in the nation. Sweeting had a pop time of 1.76 that amazed scouts along with his speed and hitting power. In the league locally, games are held Wednesday nights at 7 p.m., Friday nights at 7 p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sundays starting at 2 p.m. This week, league play will resume in all six divisions (T-Ball, Coach Pitch, Minor, Major, Junior and Senior). Wednesday night’s action will be in the Major Division as the first place Coca-Cola Reds (5-0) take on the Sports Center Marlins (0-4). The battle for first place in the Minor Division will be Friday night as the Green Parrot Astros take on the Besco Construction Braves at 7 p.m. The JBLN is also getting ready for its 3rd annual fun day and cookout on March 17. Tickets will soon be on sale, from league representatives, parents and coaches. All proceeds will go to league expenses. The event will take place at the Field of Dreams Complex, located in Nassau East. The cookout choices will be chicken and steak. It will be held from 12 noon to 6 p.m. The public is asked to continue to follow the JBLN on its website, www.jblnbaseball.com, and on Facebook under the search word ‘JBLN’. |
