|JBLN set for all-star weekend|
Published: Apr 13, 2012
In its 23rd season of existence, the Junior Baseball League of Nassau (JBLN) has been able to provide youth baseball to the community.
Discussions started about three years ago to begin a girls softball division within the league but, it was a matter of spreading the word and getting the girls involved. In the summer of 2011, Stephen ‘Bishop’ Beneby and his wife were able to assist, bringing in many girls to register and train with them.
The JBLN is happy to announce it now has five official softball teams in the 2012 season. These teams are the Seven Seas Oilers, Bahamas Waste Crushers, Sports Center Players, Snapple Snappers and the Island Wholesale Distributors.
In addition, the league has also implemented all-star showcases for each division during the Easter break. These showcases are to show off the best talent the league has to offer in each age group. The JBLN consists of six different youth baseball divisions including: T-Ball (5-6), Coach Pitch (7-8), Minor (9-10), Major (11-12), Junior (13-15) and Seniors (16-25).
This year the all-star showcase will be held on April 14, 2012. It will be an all day event with Coach Pitch at 10 a.m., Minor at 12:30 p.m., Juniors at 12:30 p.m., Major at 3 p.m., Seniors at 3 p.m. and girls softball at 5 p.m.
Teams are split into two squads, Commissioner’s and President’s, and each division team have selected players from their rosters to play in the game. The all-star weekend will be held at the Field of Dreams Complex. The public is asked to stay up to date with JBLN action at www.jblnbaseball.com and on facebook under the search word ‘JBLN’.
