Police shot and killed a man suspected of being involved in an armed robbery and shooting incident.

According to initial reports, around 11 p.m. on Friday police received information that the suspect was at Fleming Street.

“Police responded and on arrival to the area observed the man fitting the description provided to police,” Inspector Chrislyn Skippings said.

“It is reported that as the officers approached the suspect, he produced a handgun, which resulted in him being fatally shot by police.”

Officers recovered the handgun along with a quantity of ammunition from the suspect, who succumbed at the scene.

Police did not provide details about the alleged shooting or armed robbery that the victim was allegedly involved in, or whether anyone was hurt during the incident.

In other crime news, during a separate incident on Friday night a 46-year-old man was shot by an unidentified assailant.

The incident reportedly occurred around 8:30 p.m.

According to preliminary reports, the victim was at East Street and Windsor Lane when he was approached by a male wearing a black hooded jacket.

The man robbed the 46-year-old man of an undetermined amount of cash and then shot him, police reported.

The victim was taken to hospital where he is detained in stable condition.

Police say active investigations continue.
