| Prosecutors fail to prepare VBI in Die Stubbs case |

A magistrate granted prosecutors more time to prepare a voluntary bill of indictment (VBI) in the murder abetment case of Stephen Stubbs. Stubbs, 37, who is otherwise known as Die, is accused of aiding and abetting the person who shot and killed Delano Morris at Brougham Street on August 21, 2009. He appeared before Magistrate Guillimina Archer yesterday for the presentation of the VBI, which eliminates the need for a hearing to determine the sufficiency of the evidence. Initially prosecutors said they only needed a month to prepare the bundle of evidence. However, Archer told Stubbs that she had given lawyers from the Office of the Attorney General another two weeks to prepare the documents that would move the case to the Supreme Court. The case has now been adjourned to July 25. Stubbs, who is on remand at Her Majesty’s Prisons, has his own security detail. He is not transported on the bus with the general prison population. Instead armed officers from the Drug Enforcement Unit bring him to court in a four vehicle convoy. Stubbs also appeared before Deputy Chief Magistrate Carolita Bethell for the continuation of his drug conspiracy trial. Stubbs, Dion Minnis and Selva Hudson are charged with a 4,000-pound marijuana seizure in Exuma in September 2009. A fourth defendant, David Colebrooke, has jumped his $35,000 bail bond. Stubbs’ lawyer Murrio Ducille will make his closing address in the case on Monday, July 9. |
