Bahamian triple jumper Leevan ‘Superman’ Sands is recovering from surgery today. Sands had his right knee operated on this Friday morning after injuring it during the men’s triple jump finals yesterday afternoon. Although Sands had two more jumps to go, he still ended up fifth in the competition with a best leap of 17.19 meters. Sands was taken away from the sand pit on a stretcher and transported by ambulance to the medical clinic at the athletes’ village, where he was met by his mother and his wife. According to reports, up until midnight, they were still awaiting initial test results. The Bahamas Olympic Committee was expected to brief press on Sands’ condition later this eveing.
