|Corporation explains ZNS staff reassignment|

The Broadcasting Corporation of The Bahamas (BCB) announced yesterday that several staff members of the ZNS news department are being reassigned, noting that they will not be terminated, or suffer loss of salary or benefits.
In a statement, the BCB said it “decided that a number of staff in the News Department will be reassigned to the newly created Local TV Production Department along with necessary technical personnel to produce programming that Bahamians will gravitate to”.
“In order to bring a fresh focus to news, several staff adjustments will be made, including new hires to replace those persons reassigned to television production and programming,” the statement said.
It said officials met with the affected staff members to advise them of the impending adjustments on Thursday.
BCB Chairman Rev. Dr. William Thompson said in the statement that the restructuring was done in a move to regain viewership.
“While ZNS news remains number one, we have lost significant market share to some of our competitors which we fully intend to regain,” Thompson said.
“ZNS television also loses a sizeable segment of its viewing audience between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m. and as a consequence income from ad placements are negligible during this period. We seek to change that with more exciting, innovative programs to come on stream early in 2013.”
Thompson noted that ZNS is working to strengthen the new local TV Production Department and national news ‘The Bahamas Tonight’, “as we transition to a digital format early next month”.
The statement did not detail which staff members are being reassigned.
