The Cabinet Office announced yesterday that with immediate effect, The Bahamas would be in a state of mourning and would remain in that mode until after the state funeral and interment of former parliamentarian Paul L. Adderley, with public buildings appropriately draped and flags flown at half staff.

Adderley died at Princess Margaret Hospital Wednesday morning. He was 84.

Adderley was a former acting governor general.

He held various posts in the Pindling Cabinet; he served as minister of national security, minister of education, minister of foreign affairs and minister of finance.
