An off-duty police officer shot and killed a man who tried to rob him at gunpoint last night on Rupert Dean Lane, said police. Superintendent Paul Rolle said the off-duty officer was exiting a relative’s home around 8:45 p.m. and was about to enter his car when a man dressed in all black, wearing a black mask, approached him with an automatic weapon. Rolle said the officer produced his licensed handgun and killed the would-be robber who appeared to be in his early 20s. Rolle said police believe robbery was the motive for the attack, as the two men did not know each other. The officer was transported to the Central Detective Unit (CDU) for routine questioning, Rolle added. |
