Bahamian Arien Seymour, the youngest son of Arthur ‘Baldy’ Seymour from the famous Seymour family of the early days of baseball in this country, is making his own mark on the American high school baseball circuit. Seymour had an outstanding season on the mound and at the plate for the Linsly High School Cadets in Wheeling, West Virginia, helping them to clinch the school’s 17th Ohio Valley Athletic Conference (OVAC) Class 3-A Championship, 2-1, over the number one seeded team Magnolia High School. Linsly was seeded second.

In the championship game, Seymour had a game-saving catch in the bottom of the eighth inning to preserve the victory. With two out and the tying run on third base, Seymour laid out for a diving catch in center field. It preserved the victory, and gave the school its 17th OVAC title.

“Arien has been a major contributor this season in all facets of the game. His game winning diving catch in our OVAC Championship game was really exciting,” said Head Coach Jay Cartwright. “He has certainly been a joy to work with this season.”

In 19 games at the plate this year, Seymour batted a remarkable .481 for the Cadets, with 47 runs scored and an on-base percentage of .592. He also stole 23 bases in 28 attempts. From the mound, he had a stunning 1.67 ERA and 48 strike outs in 29 and a third innings, helping the Cadets to a 17-2 overall win/loss record this year. He walked just 14 batters.

Seymour, who came out of the Freedom Farm Baseball League here in New Providence, received OVAC 1st Team All-Conference honors this year. The Bahamas Baseball Federation (BBF) congratulates him on an outstanding high school season.

His accomplishments this year certainly places him in contention for the BBF 2013 Most Outstanding High School Pitcher Award.
