I guess, that when many initially read the title of this article, they might have great difficulty in coming up with a plausible answer to the question. I honestly believe, that there are a whole lot of misconceptions about what success is really all about, as so many equate success with great wealth and material rewards. But my friend, is that really what success is all about, that is the acquisition of great wealth and an accumulation of “things?” How about peace of mind, inner happiness, and spiritual wealth, do these become a part of the equation? I sincerely hope so, because without these very important factors being taken into consideration, I don't believe we can honestly call it real success.

So, we ultimately get back to the important question posed by the title of today's article: What is success? Well, the best definition I ever heard of success comes from my mentor Earl Nightingale and it goes like this: "Success is the progressive realization of a worthy goal or ideal". So, according to Earl's definition, success is different things to different people. But what it also means is, that if someone does not have a goal which they are progressing toward, that person is not successful.

So it's most important for each and every one of us to at all times have a series of worthy goals which we're progressively moving towards. So in effect, success is a never-ending journey as we pursue goals, achieve them, and then immediately set out in pursuit of a new set of goals. If you do not have any goals, well then, obviously you can't even get to first base when it comes to being successful.

One of the greatest quotes I ever heard relative to success goes like this: "The ladder of success has no top rung". Oh how true that obviously is for success is indeed ever-ending journey, always pursuing worthwhile goals and objectives. So, in effect, no one ever arrives at a stage where it's all over, so to speak, at least not until we make our final transition from this existence on planet earth, to the next phase of our everlasting life.

So my friend, in conclusion, if per chance you do not presently have a series of goals which you are working towards, you better sit down in a quiet place right now and establish a series of objectives for all areas of your life. From that point onward, you will be a success, for as Earl Nightingale put it, "Success is the progressive realization of a worthy goal or ideal."
