Choose your side

Are you a sinner — or saint? Choose a side and then enter the Vixen’s Lair Sinners n’ Saints Masquerade Lounge.
This sensual show which includes stimulating games for the five senses, a sexy lips competition, lingerie fashion show and silent auction, and it all takes place in the courtyard at Montagu Gardens, East Bay Street on Saturday, June 22.
“I wanted something different from the regular ... show up, get drunk and go home affair,” said Vixen’s Lair proprietress Anishka Culmer.
To take the theme across the board, Culmer instituted a dress code — people that lean towards the sinner’s side of the equation can put their dark side on display by wearing black and those who lean towards the saints side can adorn themselves in white. Culmer also encourages the women to wear corsets (It’s not a must, but she says corsets are sexy and classy). But it’s mandatory for everyone to wear a mask, to lend an air of mystery to the event.
“Everyone must wear a mask because having the masquerade theme makes it more mysterious, and I think sensuality is very mysterious — as it should be. And the mask gives the event more class,” said Culmer.
She hopes to showcase the balance between naughty and nice with this event.
“Some people go to one extreme and are raunchy and vulgar, and then there are some people who are just too stiff, so I wanted to create a balance between both. But I also know that people do choose one side or the other — some are more naughty and some are much nicer. I wanted to use that theme, but not those words because naughty and nice is kind of played out and overused, so that’s how I came up with the sinners and saints theme,” she said.
The unique event, the first on the summer calendar — summer officially starts today — will offer stimulating play stations to stimulate the five senses — sight, sound, hearing, touch and taste — games from which participants can win beads which they can redeem for prizes like massage gift certificates, Vixen’s Lair apparel and accessories and Remy Goddess hair. Different stations and different games will offer a certain amount of beads to be won.
Event patrons will be greeted as they enter the event lounge, given their first string of complimentary beads for the evening and it’s up to them to add to the collection throughout the evening.
Entrants will then be directed to the glam cam when they walk through the door where they can take a picture that will be entered into the best-dressed competition which fans will vote for.
The sexy lips competition will be another highlight of the evening. Patrons can show off their sexy lips by doing whatever they want — from biting into a strawberry, a piece of cake or licking their lips — to showcase their puckers. Pictures are taken, and the fans vote for the best picture. It’s a game Culmer debuted at the bridal show, which turned out to be very popular.
The cocktail show starts everything off with sensual poetry from Deangelo ‘The Lyricist’ Whyms and his crew.
A silent auction with accessories from Vixen’s Lair and stilettos from Glorious Shoes round out the evening because according to Culmer, nothing is better than corsets and stilettos.
Throughout the evening, models will pose off in various products in the archways, with the evening climaxing with a lingerie fashion show, showcasing Culmer’s fall/winter collection.
“When I first put the event out there, I didn’t know what kind of response I’d get, because I didn’t know how people would react, but when people heard more about the event and got more information, they got more excited about it,” said Culmer who is anticipating a night people will remember.
