If you were looking for an excuse to get away to a Family Island for the August Monday holiday weekend, look no further, because the folks at the Treasure Cay Beach, Marina & Golf Resort have come up with the perfect one for you. For the past 10 years they’ve offered a lobster menu at their restaurants to ring in the season, but this year they turned it up a notch, with a five-day homecoming of sorts for a weekend geared towards family fun. In other words, the All Abaco Lobster Festival has collided with what they call their August Monday Homecoming Weekend Beach Party and Beerfest.

“There’s not going to be a greater event that’s fun, that crosses all segments of ages and persons in an out island setting that’s friendly and nice,” said Stephen Kappeler, the general manager.

The All Abaco Lobster Festival will feature entertainment from the New Entry Band, Clint Sawyer & 008, deejays spinning the hottest tunes at various venues, the three restaurants located on the property — Coco’s Beach Bar and Grill, Tipsy Seagull and Spinnakers — and at the beach.

“It’s all Bahamian entertainment, but something for every audience — the young, adult, tourist and the locals,” said Kappeler. “We will have events every single day and have things on the beach that are family-oriented, with activities from volleyball to sandcastle building to treasure hunts, ring toss to all those usual fun games, contests and activities, highlighted with special entertainment every day at different venues, restaurants and bars, appealing to family, couples and the boaters.”

And it all kicks off with the resort’s famous Thursday pizza night, the largest social event on the island, that is attended by hundreds of people weekly, with partying through the weekend, concluding with the August Monday holiday beach party at which Clint Sawyer & 008 will entertain beachgoers between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.

“We’re closing with tradition because we know Bahamians like to enjoy their beach day on August Monday, so we will have Clint Sawyer and 008, a very popular local band playing on the beach so that people can enjoy a very nice finish on the beach,” said Kappeler. “And people should not miss this if they’re looking to do something fun. There’s not going to be a greater event that’s fun, that crosses all segments of ages and persons and in an out island setting that’s friendly and nice.”

The Treasure Cay Beach, Marina & Golf Resort is also offering a special $49.95 per night double occupancy room rate on its oceanfront Mariner rooms for persons wanting to fly in to experience the Lobster Fest, in conjunction with the two fly free from Nassau promotion.

With Treasure Cay’s beach named among the top 10 in the world by National Geographic, and one of the best in The Bahamas, Kappeler says the four-mile long sugar sand beach is worth exploring along with the rest of the island, when visiting over the August Monday holiday weekend for Lobster Fest.

And not to be forgotten he said are the many different ways the resort’s chef, Noel St. Claude, will prepare the crustacean. The appetizer lobster offerings include the lobster and crab cake with tropical fruit salsa, avocado and jerk lobster salad, coconut lobster kabob with sweet chili sauce and the Treasure Cay herbal lobster trio.

Lobster shepherd pie, lobster stuffed beef tenderloin with hollandaise sauce, baked lobster with garlic pesto sauce, Thai curry lobster, sweet and sour lobster, lobster Francoise, Caribbean spicy lobster and lobster thermidor are among the entrée offerings. There will even be lobster pizza on pizza night.

Dessert will feature a graham cracker coconut lobster with vanilla ice cream which Kappeler says sounds kind of crazy, but will leave you in amazement.

“The Lobster Fest is the greatest excuse to get away and come to Abaco for the August Monday holiday,” he said. “And while here for several days, don’t just explore Treasure Cay, come and explore all of Abaco.”
