Free National Movement Leader Dr. Hubert Minnis was named by the House of Assembly today after refusing to withdraw controversial statements has made about the relationship between Canadian fashion designer Peter Nygard and the Progressive Liberal Party.

Minnis, the MP for Killarney, was given the opportunity to again withdrawn his remarks when the House met today, but refused.

As a result, House Speaker Dr. Kendal Major declared that Minnis had misconducted himself and displayed objectional behavior, showing disregard for the authority of the chair.

The Speaker moved a motion to Name Minnis. Opposition MPs opposed; however, the vote was passed by all present government MPs.

Minnis refused to leave and the House was suspended for 15 minutes. During the break Minnis held a news conference and said that all FNM members would absent themselves from the entire period — two consecutive sittings — that he will not be allowed to speak.
