Over the weekend, the 4th Bahamas Open Martial Arts Championship (BOMAC) was held at Mario's Bowling and Family Entertainment Palace. The event was hosted by Dr. Kent Bazard, president of the Bahamas Wushu Sanda Association.

Competitions were held in Forms/Kata, Point Fighting, Chinese Sanda Full Contact Kickboxing, No Gi Grappling and Amateur Mixed Martial Arts. Events were sanctioned by the Bahamas Martial Arts Federation and the Bahamas Mixed Martial Arts Association (Sanctioning Committee).

Schools in attendance were the Empire Mixed Martial Arts, Smokey's Karate School, the Society of Shotokan Stylists, the Bahamas Tong Dojo, the Academy of Martial Arts (Int'l), Cross Training Martial Arts, the Bahamas Kodokan Judo and Jujitsu, the Bahamas Karate Academy, Five Star School of Karate, and the Nassau Martial Arts Academy. A master's demonstration was put on by Shihan Alfred Rolle.

Special guests in attendance were Tashi Ron and Professor James Hill, co founders of the World Combat Grappling Alliance, and Coach Kenny Johnson, wrestling coach of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) fighters Lyoto Machida, Anderson Silva and Fabricio Werdum. The Hill brothers hosted a Brazilian Jujitsu clinic, and Johnson held a seminar on wrestling for Mixed Martial Arts (MMA).

Both the Hill brothers and Johnson enjoyed the beauty and hospitality of The Bahamas, and expressed they enjoyed BOMAC 2013, and were impressed with the standard of the event and the efforts of Bazard. Johnson said: "The Bahamas is loaded with natural talent and I am impressed with the ability. I'd like to thank Dr. Bazard for bringing me here to share with you, and I am grateful for his efforts to promote the sport of Mixed Martial Arts here in The Bahamas."

Bazard is exited about the growth of the sport in The Bahamas, and is planning more events for later in 2013. Special congratulations are sent out to Sensei Julian Rolle for winning the Black Belt Challenge for Kata and Fighting, winning both cash prizes.

The sponsor of the event was the Royal Bank of Canada (RBC).
