Can you briefly describe your experience in the tourism sector and what your role is today?
My journey in the tourism industry has been a challenging and uplifting one. I have learnt to be a people's person and a leader.
Why did you choose to work in tourism as a career?
I have chosen to work in the tourism industry because I love meeting new people and learning new things.
What has been your most memorable moment?
My most memorable moment was becoming employee of the month.
Has the industry changed since you started your career? How?
The industry has changed over the years. There are more people coming into the field but are not serious and taking responsibility for their jobs. On the other hand, there are some people like myself who entered this industry to make a change and to offer exceptional service to a diverse crowd.
What should The Bahamas focus on to stay competitive?
We should focus on continuous improvement. This gives us the opportunity to analyze where we are now and to come up with new, vibrant ideas on ways to better improve this industry in ways that will keep us at the top. Also proper training to young persons coming into the field. Making it mandatory for future hotel workers to enroll in the Bahama host course that will make them ready to provide service for the guests.
What advice would you give to a young person who is considering a career in tourism?
My advice to young people considering the career is to set your goals high: believe it and you will achieve it!
