Bahamian boxer Carl Hield and National Boxing Coach Andre Seymour are on their way to Santiago, Chile, where Hield will take part in the International Boxing Association’s (AIBA) Elite Continental Boxing Championships.

Wellington Miller, president of the Amateur Boxing Federation of The Bahamas (ABFB) noted that hopes are high for Hield, who will be boxing in the new weight class of 75 kilograms.

“We are looking for Carl to capture the imagination of other Bahamian youngsters who are thinking about amateur boxing as a sport in which they might like to participate,” said Miller. “Boxing is a wonderful way for young men - and young women - to practice self discipline and to keep in good shape for life.”

Miller pointed out that the Santiago tournament is by invitation only, and, “we are happy that Carl has earned a place on the invitation list.”

Earlier this year, Hield won a bronze medal at the Cuban Boxing Championships and is one of the most decorated amateur boxers in Bahamian history. He has represented The Bahamas on many occasions. Miller said that “as more senior amateur boxers retire or turn professional, the federation is looking forward to Carl being our flagship athlete.”
