The potential for relief at BEC
Published: Sep 05, 2013
I suggest almost divine intervention is required for even the smallest reduction in BEC costs except what is being talked about by Deputy Prime Minister Philip Brave Davis (10 percent). But come July 2014, VAT kicks in and that will add 15 percent to all our bills and on all services which are not taxed now.
If the advisors of BEC/government choose a traditional approach as a result of the proposals received from the current RFP-tender process, it will be at least May 2016, or later, before any further assistance and relief. Tums or even the best antacid can’t give you relief, customers.
The question is obvious: Can the average consumer survive until May 2016?
Even a Perry Christie intervention can’t solve this problem. It is reality and that is it. It takes 26 months to 30 months to build an electricity generation plant.
