Pastor pens her first book

Val Newton-Knowles is not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ.
As a matter of fact, she is so excited about it that it has compelled her to pen her first book, “No Shame Only Power”.
The book is in part a walk-through of the book of Romans where the Apostle Paul, through his life experiences, proves that the Gospel of Christ is in fact “the power of God unto salvation”.
Knowles, a pastor at Jesus Christ Centered Ministries International, has been a Christian for over 20 years. She said that because she understands many of the struggles Christians face, she wanted to share the lessons she has learned, which have helped her to stay the course for over two decades.
“My book is really geared towards trying to get us to understand that if we want to be successful as Christians, we must have God’s word
living on the inside of us,” she said.
“We have got to get in the word daily. We have got to spend time in prayer and in meditation of God’s word on a daily basis. That does not mean that we won’t face challenges, but God’s word will help us to stand in the midst of those challenges and situations.
“And even as we fall, because the word would have built a foundation in us, we will get back up and keep going.”
The book’s first chapters give readers a synopsis of God’s plan of salvation, beginning from Adam’s life in the Garden of Eden to Christ’s crucifixion on Golgotha. Knowles said that the first part was the most meaningful part to her as an author, as it highlighted the fact that salvation is the first step for anyone who wants to get right with God.
“Everything starts there,” she said. “You must first accept Jesus as your lord and savior and understand the great love that God had for us in giving up his son for our sins.”
Knowles’ book is available at the Christian Book Store on Rosetta Street and Mount Royal Avenue.
