Dear Editor,

I totally disagree with Pamela Burnside’s view that we do not need a University of The Bahamas. I am extremely disappointed to say the least.

If we can host Miss Teen America, Miss Universe and other world-class sporting events, we can definitely fund a university today. And it has nothing to do with being shame or being poor. We have to think outside of the box and grab the bull by the horn.

If we can educate ourselves we would not need to send our students abroad where they may be lured by “brain drain scenarios”. If Bahamian students are educated locally, they most likely would eventually contribute to the betterment of the Bahamian society. If other nations like Jamaica, Trinidad and Barbados can do it, we can too.

I am sure that if Burnside would have conversed with her brother-in-law, Stanley Burnside, he would have a broader view. A word to the wise will suffice.
