A man who was stabbed multiple times in his lower back and head died on Wednesday evening, police said.

Police said the 25-year-old victim was at Lightbourne Street, Yellow Elder Gardens, at 6:30 p.m. when he got into an argument with another man who stabbed him.

The victim was transported to hospital by private vehicle where he died, police said.

Police said a 39-year-old man was in custody.

Police said they also arrested wanted suspect, Kevin Michael Glinton, 22, of Milton Street, in connection with a murder on John Road last month.

Police said the victim was walking on John Road near Market Street around 9:30 p.m. when he was shot to the upper body.

He was taken to hospital via private vehicle where he died, police said.

The murder count for the year so far stands at 83.

The latest murder was the second to occur since National Security Minister Dr. Bernard Nottage announced back on September 6 that all police officers on New Providence would immediately be placed on 12-hour shifts.

Additionally, he said 150 Royal Bahamas Defence Force marines would be immediately deployed to assist with the crime fight.

The new crime plan was implemented days after 12 people were murdered on New Providence in 13 days.

Nottage acknowledged that gang and turf wars had fueled the recent increase in violence.
