Police arrested four Bahamian men in New Providence in connection with $118,000 worth of marijuana yesterday morning.
Police also arrested three Bahamian men in Bimini in connection with $411,000 worth of marijuana on Saturday morning.
The drugs weighed a combined 529 pounds, police said.
Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) officers, working on intelligence, found 118 pounds of marijuana in the Clifton Pier area around 4 a.m. yesterday
Police arrested a 45-year-old man from Andros; a 40-year-old from Abaco and two 32-year-old men from New Providence. They are expected to be charged sometime this week.
In the Bimini bust, DEU officers and Bimini police, working on intelligence, found 411 pounds of marijuana along Bimini’s northeastern shoreline around 8 a.m. on Saturday.
Head of DEU Superintendent Samuel Butler said the marijuana was packed in numerous bags, and ready for transport.
The suspects — ages 40, 20 and 26 — were from Bimini and Grand Bahama.
They were flown to New Providence for questioning yesterday morning, police said.
“This is again evidence of the DEU’s relentless pursuit of interdicting drug trafficking within the Commonwealth of The Bahamas,” Butler said.
Police also reported that a pilot of a commercial airline was arrested for questioning on Saturday in connection with three kilos of cocaine.
The arrest was made after the drugs reportedly arrived at Grand Bahama International Airport.
Butler did not say what the pilot’s involvement was alleged to have been.
He said the drugs originated from New Providence.
The cocaine has an estimated street value of $75,000, according to Butler.
The arrests are the latest of several recent major drug seizures.
Last week, officers seized $2.3 million worth of marijuana on Farmer’s Cay, Exuma.
Police said four Bahamian men were arrested in connection with that find.
A week before that find, officers found 76 large packages of marijuana on Rick Cay.
The drugs weighed 1,698 pounds.
Two men, ages 51 and 48, were arrested at the scene.
On September 16, police found an estimated 20,000 marijuana plants in a large field off Carmichael Road in New Providence.
