Despite having completed only a few of the championship series in the various islands, the executives of the Bahamas Softball Federation (BSF) still released the official game schedule for the upcoming National Round Robin Championships.

The annual BSF National Round Robin Championships will honor Nell Russell, Alphonso ‘Chicken’ Albury and Reggie ‘The Juicer’ Knowles, on November 1.  The championships will run October 31 to November 3, at the Bankers Field, Balliou Hill Sporting Complex.

“We are excited to hold another national round robin championships,” said Burkette Dorsette, president of the BSF.  “The fact that none of the championships around the country are fully completed is a good indication of the level of competition we will have.  I think the men and women in either Andros, or Grand Bahama, are completed.  They are the only two.

“We are expecting six men’s team and five women’s squads, so it is shaping up to be an exciting series.  From what I have seen during my travels around the various islands, I would say all of the teams are strong.

“The Truckers are not here to defend their title, so we will see a new men’s team crowned.  Kitty Kats from Grand Bahama have been dethroned, so a new female’s team will also be crowned.  Like I said, all of the teams are strong and Andros has shown potential in the last two round robins.  I am expecting a big fan base coming from the islands.”

Participating islands listed in the men’s division are Abaco, Andros, Grand Bahama, New Providence, Spanish Wells and Exuma.  Only five islands will compete for the round robin crown in the women’s division – they include Abaco, Andros, Grand Bahama, New Providence and Spanish Wells.  Each team will play five games in the round robin format.  The four top teams, from each division, will advance to the playoffs.

The first game will be played at 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 31 between the Grand Bahama and Exuma men.  The game with Andros and Spanish Wells men will follow; and Andros and Abaco ladies will play at 9 p.m., before the New Providence and Abaco men take to the field at 10 p.m.
