Police said the relative of the 72-year-old woman who was stabbed to death over the weekend will likely be charged in a magistrate’s court in connection with that killing later this week.
Police initially said the suspect was 37. However, Superintendent Solomon Cash of the Central Detective Unit (CDU) confirmed yesterday he is 21.
The victim, identified by her daughter as Vivian Johnson, of Greenway Drive, off Carmichael Road, was believed to be at home alone with her attacker when she was stabbed on Saturday night, police said.
She was stabbed several times in her neck.
Johnson was found on the floor of a bathroom toward the rear of the home around 8:30 p.m., according to police, who believe she died earlier in the day.
Police reportedly found a bloody knife outside the home.
Johnson's daughter, who did not want to be identified, said her mother was a retired widow.
Johnson's death marked the 87th murder in the country for the year.
This same time last year there were 92 murders.
