Last weekend marked the beginning of the new horse show season for Bahamian equestrians. The season began in style with the new two-day October Fall Fest Horse Show at Mariposa Stables. Dozens of junior and adult riders met to test their skills in varying classes of competition. The excitement was heightened by the fact that for the first time in many categories, riders earned “points” which will be carried through the horse show season, toward End-of-Year Championship awards.

The guest judge was professional rider and Grand Prix show jumper Andrew Hyde Moffatt of Ontario, Canada.

The October Fall Fest is the first of several new horse shows introduced by Equestrian Bahamas (EB), the new national federation of equestrian sport, to expand the competition calendar here in New Providence.

“One of EB’s main goals is to provide more opportunities for our young riders to hone their skills and have fun with their sport,” said Cathy Ramsingh-Pierre, president of the EB Committee. “We are very grateful to Mrs. Erika Adderley-Coello, owner of Mariposa Stables, for being a wonderful host for this first event.”

Equestrian Bahamas’ mission is to create and develop a comprehensive equestrian program here in The Bahamas, nurturing and supporting a broad range of equestrian activities. The next horse show of the competition year will take place November 9-10, 2013, at Camperdown Riding Club. The public is invited to attend.
