In a move to implement more environmentally friendly practices in its diesel market, Esso (Bahamas) officially introduced Ultra Low-Sulphur Diesel (ULSD), the first of its kind to the Bahamian market. Speaking at a launch reception last Thursday, Esso Country Manager Valentino Hanna told stakeholders and guests that the launch is a response to consumer demand.

“Esso has introduced ULSD in response to calls from constituents in this market for a lower sulphur fuel that should substantially lower emissions of particulate matter from diesel engines.”

According to Win Gardner, US Fuels Quality Manager for Exxon Mobil, the new ULSD fuel contains a maximum of 50 parts-per-million (ppm) of sulphur, a significant improvement on the previous diesel grade offered that permitted up to 5000 ppm of sulphur.

While compatible with older diesel engines, in newer vehicles, ULSD is especially designed to enable the effective performance of equipment with new emission control devices.

Suggesting Esso has been an industry leader in marketing innovative products to consumers, Hanna said the new product, “demonstrates our dedication to both meeting our customer’s needs and our commitment to protect our environment.”

ULSD is available at all Esso service stations and marinas throughout New Providence and the Family Islands.
