Triple murder trial to get new date

Two men accused of a triple murder will get a new trial date on November 11.
Justice Carolita Bethell could not begin jury selection in the case of Shawn Knowles and Timothy Saunders earlier this month because of an insufficient jury pool. A quorum of 48 people is required, but only 36 prospective jurors showed up.
Bethell has transferred the case to Senior Justice Jon Isaacs to assign a new trial date.
Knowles and Saunders, 33, both of Cowpen Road, were to be tried for the July 30, 2011 murders of Edward Braynen, Chackara Rahming and Erica Ward, who was eight months pregnant at the time.
Prosecutors say the crimes were committed during a home invasion at an apartment on Montgomery Avenue.
The men are not charged in relation to the unborn child because the fetus is not considered a person under Bahamian law.
Knowles and Saunders are wearing ankle bracelets as a condition of their bail.
