ZNS mourns veteran broadcaster's death

By KHASHAN POITIER

Guardian Staff Reporter

Veteran broadcaster Wycliffe Miller, 55, collapsed and died at the Broadcasting Corp. of The Bahamas' radio station Tuesday afternoon, moments after completing his segment on Community Announcements.

Regular listeners to ZNS 15.40 AM later heard Vaughn Miller's voice, rather than Mr. Miller's, on his normal 7 p.m. programme.

Mr. Miller collapsed shortly 2 p.m. He was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Employees and management expressed their grief for the man they affectionately called "Son of a Preacher Man."

One employee said: "He was one of those original good guys; you couldn't find anything bad to say about him."

Another said during the short time that she knew him, she learned a lot about him.

"I'm really going to miss him, he was really a nice person," another employee said.

During its 7 p.m. television broadcast, ZNS' studio was decorated with a large, white wreath.

The corporation issued a statement a few hours after Mr. Miller's death.

Mr. Miller joined the corporation on Jan. 2, 1973. He later resigned and rejoined the staff in 1996.

He is survived by his wife, Aloma Miller, and daughters Yvette, Renee and Nicola.
