BIFF presents 'Eleutheran Adventure' By BIFF, For The Guardian On Saturday, January 27 the Bahamas International Film Festival (BIFF) will kick off this year's film series with the Audience Award for Best Documentary winner 'The Eleutheran Adventure'. This bahamian film was made on a very low budget supported by bahamian producers George Wyckoff and Johnathan Morris. Director, Kareem Mortimer will show you a slice of bahamian culture never before seen . Come and join BIFF and Kareem at Rawson Square, Saturday, January 27 at 7.30 pm to see the film free of charge. BIFF is very proud to provide an opportunity for Bahamian film makers to gain exposure not only throughout The Bahamas but also in the international film world. Kareem is preparing to continue his networking opportunities at this year's Berlin International Film Festival from February 8-16, where he has been accepted into the Berlinale Talent Campus. This year, the summit received 3,678 applications from 129 countries, so Kareem's acceptance is a great recognition of his potential. "Kareem is the first Caribbean film maker to attend the Talent Campus at the Berlinale" says founder & executive director [ CONTACT _Con-41377D611 c s l] Leslie Vanderpool. Leslie introduced Kareem to the program when she returned from the Cannes Film Festival in May. "I am so proud that he took advantage of this opportunity. The setting provides filmmakers with a gateway which could boost their careers to the next level. Making contacts with other budding filmmakers of the world is a valuable gift. Only a select few are a part of the program and this could be a tremendous reward if the program is fully taken advantage of," says Vanderpool. Kareem is no stranger to such programs, as last year he was a part of the 1st Filmmaker Residency Program that the Bahamas International Film Festival provided to six Bahamian filmmakers. The program was created to provide mentors to Bahamian and Caribbean filmmakers from leading industry professionals in the world of cinema. BIFF's Filmmakers Residen-cy Program was also instrumental in facilitating international funding and a producer for the film 'Rain'. n Eleutheran Adventure (2006): 'The Eleutheran Adventure' is a documentary film that involves Kareem Mortimer and cameraman Kevin Taylor hitchhiking from Spanish Wells to the Southernmost point on the island of Eleuthera with only $150 in hand |
