Morton workers approve strike action

By Stephen Gay, Guardian Staff Reporter, stephen@nasguard.com

Workers at Morton Bahamas Limited in Inagua voted in favor of a strike vote on Tuesday, after officials of the Bahamas Industrial Manufactures and Allied Workers Union (BIMAWU) and the company's management were unable to resolve an issue of a wrongful dismissal of a union executive.

Attorney for the union, Obie Ferguson, told The Guardian last evening that 99 percent of the unionized workers voted in favor of the industrial action.

"There can be a strike at any moment," Ferguson said. "At any date, anytime, we don't need a date, 99 percent of the workers voted in favor of a strike. However, we will be putting in place certain things to bring about the expression of the workers."
