The College of the Bahamas is seeking to create a unique university brand identity as it moves closer to attaining university status.
While the timing of when the college will become a university rests with the government, the college is reportedly making several adjustments to move the process along.
According to Associate VP of External Affairs Gabriella Fraizer, the brand will go a long way in solidifying the institution's ultimate goal.
"The brand is your identity; it's who you are; it's your logo. It's what you call yourself," she said. "Right now we are the College of the Bahamas and we have a specific logo. What we're saying now is, once we become a university this means a whole new identity, a whole new logo, a whole new image that people will begin to associate synonymously with the institution.
"We sent out a request for proposals inviting companies who have experience in putting together corporate identities and putting together the required marketing materials to send us the proposals that we can review to determine which company we would engage going forward as we move closer to university status.
"The main factor the college is looking for is consistency," Fraizer said.
"There are so many things that it can be. Whatever it is we end up with it has to be consistent," she said. "Take for instance the Bahamian flag; people always complain that the blue coloring is wrong or the yellow is wrong...so it's really about getting a company to sit with us so that we can put together the identity of the University of the Bahamas, our logo, our slogan, our colors etc."
But even with all the improvements to the college, it will not become a university until the government is ready. Fraizer explained that the move would require an act of Parliament.
