Carter and Pople to be honoured By LAURA MATTHEWS, Guardian Staff Reporter laura@nasguard.com Two "outstanding" Bahamians will be honoured at the Over-the-Hill Reunion Group's annual church service, in commemoration of the Emancipation of Slavery on August 6. Charles Carter and Louise Pople will be honoured for their contribution to the country in the fields of journalism, business and cultural-heritage and business and community services respectively. President of the group, Juliette Barnwell, said that Charles Carter, the publisher of the Nassau Guardian, was chosen to be honoured this year because of the influence he had on the media industry in The Bahamas, and how he used the media to impact the community. "Mr. Carter's impact on the community was made through broadcasting, first in radio as the host of the highly regarded 'Young Bahamian Show' and later on television he hosted 'Focus,' the first Bahamian television series. He was also the voice for the majority of national events, including independence," she said. |
