Second marine is jailed

A second Bahamian law enforcement officer has been jailed for smuggling cocaine into Florida.

Jeremy Glinton was a serving member of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force when he was arrested last May for having a kilo of cocaine with the intent to distribute. Glinton was given the same 169-month sentence that was handed to his codefendant, Brenden Glinton, two weeks ago. Glinton was also a Defence Force marine.

According to court documents, a confidential source tipped off officers at the Tarpon Springs Police Department that Glinton would be delivering a kilo of cocaine for $22,000. When Glinton and Major arranged to meet the confidential source, agents stationed a marked police cruiser in the parking lot of the meeting place.

When Glinton arrived, he called the source and asked to change the location because of the presence of the police car. But Glinton's car was stopped because of a blown brake light shortly after he left the original meeting point. The officers searched the car and found the drugs, according to the evidence.

Major was driving at the time.
