Bahamasair delays fare increase for domestic flights By STAFF WRITER, Guardian News Desk
In response to certain queries regarding the increase in airfares for domestic flights, Bahamasair's management said it has decided to delay the introduction of the new fare structure until Tuesday, May 13. Bahamasair told Guardian Business last week that as of May 1 it had raised its domestic round-trip tickets by $10 and its international ticket price by $15 or $20. Henry L. Woods said "the challenge of trying to contain escalating costs is daunting and one of several responses considered is to improve operating revenues. However, given certain circumstances and to allow inter-island travelers to adjust to that price increase, we have decided to delay introduction until next Tuesday, May 13th." Woods added, "the composition of our fare structure is under constant review and as costs continue to increase, it is quite possible that further fare increases maybe necessary. In today's operating environment it is critical to improve revenues and contain costs" However, in the event of any future changes, the public will be duly informed. Notwithstanding the increase, Bahamasair's management and staff said it remained committed to providing higher quality customer service and maintaining a very high standard of safety within its operations.
