64 Haitians apprehended

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force reported yesterday that it apprehended 64 suspected Haitian migrants in a wooden sloop near the northern end of Ship Channel Cay, Exuma, on Wednesday.

The group, made up of 54 men and nine women, was transported to the Carmichael Road Detention Centre where they are currently being housed.

Commander Kirkland Neely, officer in charge of the Immigration Enforcement Unit, also said yesterday a repatriation exercise of 142 migrants will be conducted next Tuesday.
