Can lack of water cause a heart attack?
Researcher Dr. Jacqueline Chun with the Adventist Health Studies found that, drinking water is believed to thin the blood and so lowers the risk of blood clots that can lead to a heart attack. In the study people who used other fluids such as soda, milk or fruit juice did not get the same protection.
Water is the most valuable helper you have in the daily task of keeping you healthy or helping you recover health when you are sick. Listening to some people brag about the fact that they hardly drink water is amazing! Nothing is more refreshing to the body as plain simple water. After all, the human body is about 70% water. Because your body excrete about two quarts of water each day during normal functioning, it is important that we get at least 6-8 glasses of water each day to replenish our supply. People who are pleasantly plump need more.
Coffee, tea, sodas and other such beverages are not substitutes for water, It is true that you get liquid from these drinks, but you also get unneeded chemicals, dyes and empty calories that do not promote health. Sodas, aside from providing 220 empty calories per can, is also high in phosphorus. A high intake of phosphorus causes the body to excrete calcium, which promotes osteoporosis later in life.
Many who are trying to lose weight report that they eat only one meal per day and still gain weight. However, when asked about the amount of drink they consume each day, some report up to 64 ounces of sodas or drink. Truly they are getting lots of liquid, but calories too. Eight cans of drink at 220 calories per can provide 1,760 calories per day. This amount of empty calories will sink any dieter's programme. The truth is, one can gain a whole lot of weight from drinking sodas and other sweet drinks.
There are several myths people have about drinking water that is false. Some people believe that water causes them to gain weight. It is not the water weight that people need to lose, but the fat weight. Lots of people use dieter's tea to help them lose weight. Some of these teas have caffeine, which causes one to lose fluids due to its diuretic properties. When we lose too much fluid we upset our body's electrolyte balance. Another myth is that drinking lots of water thins the blood or makes you light-headed. According to recent research, water may do just the opposite, protect you from a heart attack. If in doubt, keep in mind that there is less danger in drinking a little too much water than in not drinking enough.
Thirsty? Choose water! It has no calories and is very refreshing; besides, it may save your life! God has invited you to drink from the well that will never go dry, He is the true water of life. Partake and live forever,
Words of wisdom from your Dietitian!
Camels are known for going days without drinking water, The fact that many people treat themselves like "camels" is the reason so many of us are continually in the doctor's office for relief of colds, the flu, back pains, headaches, constipation and other such miseries. Recent research is even linking the lack of water to an increased risk of a heart attack.
