Little Miss Bahamas to crown youngest ambassador

By STAFF WRITER ~ For the Guardian:

Under the theme Cultural Princess with a Purpose and the Patronage of the Hon. Charles Maynard, Minister of Culture, 34 beauties will take to the stage competing for The Bahamas' youngest official ambassador and covetous title - Little Miss Bahamas 2009.

The Pageant is being held December 6, 2009 with preliminaries of National Costume and Talent competition set for November 22, at the Wyndham Nassau Resorts Ballroom.

This year's Pageant will not only seek to crown the official Little Miss Bahamas, but will crown winners of four categories- Little Miss La Petite (ages 3-6), Little Miss (ages 7-9), Little Miss Ideal (ages 10-12) and Little Miss Preteen (ages 13-15), all of whom will represent The Bahamas at the world's largest and most prestigious Children Pageant World's Our Little Miss and compete for over $150,000 in scholarships, among 200 other worldwide contestants.

Gaynell Rolle, president of The Bahamas's Little Miss Pageant, said she is pleased with this year's turn out and the enthusiasm of the little angels.

"They are like the fountain of youth, they keep us re-energized, excited, committed and we love it."

The contestants were unveiled in October. Since then the little ladies have participated in a number of workshops, etiquette training and rehearsals. They were also special guest of the "Dominoes Let's make Pizza" program sponsored by Dominoes. Upcoming events include a visit to Dolphins Encounters, a McDonald's Princess Party, Calendar Photo Shoot, Cultural Mardi Gras Float Parade and National Costume and Talent competition. This year's sponsors include the Ministry of Culture, Dolphins Encounters, Majestic Tours, McDonalds, Colgate and Dominoes Pizza.

To assist the Judges in the selection process there will be three fast track winners, who will automatically advance to the top 15- Little Miss Popularity, Little Miss Talent and Little Miss Float Parade. The first public event is the National Costume and Talent competition set for November 22, 2009 at 3 p.m. at Wyndham Nassau Resorts.

Tickets are available from the contestants or at the door – Adults $30 and Children $20. This will be followed by the Grand Finale of December 6th, 2009 at 3 p.m. at COB Performance Arts Center/Theatre.
