The King of Pop may have been gone since June but the fever is not over yet. This weekend the Boys Choir of The Bahamas is presenting "Tribute to Michael Jackson," a special event in celebration of Michael Jackson's musical legacy.
Alfred Dean, Assistant Director of the Choir, says that the timing couldn't be better than now to host this event. He says that this event will be exciting and touching especially since all the boys have gone through so much to ensure that it happens. Dean feels that doing this concert tribute to Jackson is more than fitting, not because of who Jackson was, but because his music was often about togetherness, love, children and friendship which are good themes to be promoting to the youth and the community.
"You can expect a night of great music. The Boys Choir will be performing a series of 14 to 18 of Jackson's most popular songs. The Children's Choir will also be singing a selection as well," said Dean. "For quite a few of the songs the boys will be imitating and the finale will be a production of 'Thriller'. So that should be just great."
Dean is happy that this event is happening because he feels that the 41 boys in the group have all individually grown, and just had fun preparing for the event. He hopes that when people come out they will not only see an outstanding performance but also a group of boys from all cross sections of the nation coming together doing something positive.
The assistant director hopes that these boys can be an inspiration to other young men and show them that they don't have to resort to violence or crime.
"We know that all boys can't sing to the requirements necessary to join the choir so we do have other things they can do that is equally useful, like dealing with stage sets and working with the audio system," he said. "So we have something for them to do if they want to. But we hope our boys are a true inspiration to all those who come out."
