Being right is sometimes wrong
By D. Paul Reilly:
There are some people, as we all know full well, who always want to be right. These kinds of people insist on putting everyone down, whilst stating that they are the only one who actually knows what they're talking about. In most cases, these kinds of people have an extremely arrogant attitude, and spend their days and evenings going out of their way to let others know, how very wrong they are. This, in their cockeyed opinion, makes them in some way feel totally superior to everyone else, those who just don't know what they're talking about.
A playground for the young and young at heart

It's glitz, glamor and fun at the annual Heart Ball
By Shavaughn Moss ~ Lifestyles Editor ~ shavaughn@nasguard.com:
It's an evening where elegant couture is on display, and sophistication is at its best. But it's definitely not stodgy or still. It's an evening filled with laughter, excitement and lots of dancing. It's the 46th Annual Heart Ball.
Rock on at Hard Rock
By Chakara Bennett ~ Guardian Intern:
Thank God it's Friday may be all that's on your mind, but you have another reason to thank God it's Friday today, because you get to start the weekend off just right with Nassau's own Reggae and gentle rock band, Willis and the Illest, who are scheduled to rock the night away at the Hard Rock Café's Haiti Relief concert tonight.
It's all about the birds
By Raquel Pinder ~ Guardian Intern:
Ever wondered why some birds have webbed feet or why some birds have larger beaks than others? Maybe you're curious as to why some birds travel solo and others in flocks. Are you interested in finding out why some birds have wings but don't fly? Or perhaps you're interested in knowing how birds communicate and why some birds make good pets and others don't? How about knowing how you can tell whether a bird is male or female. The place to get the answers and satisfy your curiosity is the Ardastra Gardens Zoo & Conservation Centre.
Last call for the annual Carnival
By Shavaughn Moss ~ Lifestyles Editor ~ shavaughn@nasguard.com:
The annual Carnival has delighted thousands of people over the weeks that it has been open at the Queen Elizabeth Sports Centre, but if you have yet to make your way down, then you need to do so quickly, because after this weekend it will be gone at least for another 11 months until their return in December.
The benefit of catnaps
By D. Paul Reilly:
The dictionary defines the noun 'Catnap' as "A short light nap or doze" and the verb 'Catnap' as "To doze or sleep lightly". Another dictionary defines the word 'Catnap' as "Sleeping for a short period of time, usually not in bed". Some other words or phrases used to express the same meaning are 'Siesta', 'Forty Winks' or 'Snooze'. Yesterday about midday I was not feeling too good, so I sat down in a comfortable armchair, and in a few minutes I was asleep. I awoke about thirty minutes later, had a cup of tea, and felt immensely better.

It's a red hot ball
By Chakara Bennett ~ Guardian Intern:
If you were asked to describe what it's going to be like at the Red Cross Ball this year, then officials will surely have to say hot, hot, hot! Because everyone's favorite Royal Bahamas Police Force Pop band will be setting off the excitement on the evening of Saturday, January 30. To add more heat to the room Visage, and the Lou Adams Band will be taking the stage, with the evening topped off with the popular 1970s smooth soul group, the Chi-Lites. They will be serenading the crowd with some of their old hits like "Have You Seen Her," "Oh Girl," "A Letter to Myself," "A Lonely Man" and "Help Wanted."
A major problem
By D. Paul Reilly:
From my observations, there is a major problem in this great big world of ours, which is bringing a whole lot of grief into the lives of so many. Now at this point, I can just imagine many of my readers trying to figure out what I feel this major problem is. Some will perhaps say, that the use of drugs and alcohol is a major problem which is wrecking so many lives. Others will perhaps suggest, that a lack of spirituality in the lives of so many is a major problem. Still others will state, that the quest for riches, which results in far too many people becoming engaged in illegal activities is a major problem.

The 15th Annual Endowment for the Performing Arts Gala Ball is expected to be the event that is the talk of the town this year not only because it will be hosted at Government House or even because FoodArt by Cacique will present the food and decor but because an art piece from the late Brent Malone will be one of the pieces on the auction block courtesy of his daughter Marysa Malone.
'Tooth fairy' is full of smiles, cliches
Just weeks after something dubbed a "squeakquel," we have a movie advertised with the tagline: "You can't handle the tooth." One quakes for the marketing that awaits us for "Marmaduke."
Just as Hollywood has been digging through the superhero archives, it has also been marauding the cupboard of mythical childhood creatures they come with a "built-in" audience, after all. Yes, following the big-screen exploits of elves and bedroom monsters, the Tooth Fairy was inevitably ready for its close-up. |
