Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:23-24.
Because of the incident involving the young man from Nigeria on Northwest Flight 253 bound for Detroit from Amsterdam, the security search process at airports globally has been heightened and extensive. Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, whose underwear was a weapon of mass destruction intended for the bombing of innocent lives on this flight, told authorities he received his training and the explosives from al-Qaeda in Yemen.
So no longer can one make a mad late dash to catch a flight because it will be "later for you." And while it may be in this first month in the year 2010 that many have slipped by "check point Charlie," as to our actions, deeds and words, know that each day of our lives, a record is kept by our almighty Father!
Then you have many whose main hobby it is to want to know everything about everybody, so they can have round and round table talks, but the "dirt" out on them is as high as any mountain foreign to these parts. Indeed it is time for some serious searching to be done in many areas spiritually, nationally, morally and educationally, but the searcher must now become the searched.
So in our lesson text today coming from this wonderful 139th Psalm, David calls out to God for a personal search to be done on him. He knew the dangerous load he was carrying according to his adulterous and murderous life. He called for an X-ray search to be done on him "turn me upside down and look in me, through me, around me, in front of me and behind me."
Celebrating God's knowledge and power, the Psalmist acknowledged that his Creator

knew his thought, his makeup, ways, deeds and words. He had to confess that "such knowledge is too wonderful for me." He thought of how on many occasions he tried to escape and hide from God, but it was impossible to evade the "Heavenly Bounty Hunter!"
God is everywhere. Not even those in the womb are excluded: "Thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well."
How many are heaping accolades and high praises on persons who are as foreign to them as Timbuktu! These are times when we must ask God to help us in our deliberations, our intentions, and getting to know persons whom we are about to make serious commitments to.
It is time for us to seriously think about the stage of our lives and ask God to do a complete search of us. Are we pleased with our lifestyle, our character, deeds and actions? Were we the best we could be last year? Did we ask God to take us in for a complete "service check?" Did we ask Him to change the oil of disposition, the filters of unkind thoughts and words, the spark plugs of malice and jealousy, the power steering of being neglectful to family, friends, vocations and worship? What about flushing out the clogged radiator of avarice, greed and the spirit of not to give?
"Search me, O God, and know my heart! Try me and know my thoughts and see if there be any wicked or hurtful way in me. Change and correct any path that causes you, your dear Son and the Holy Spirit, grief." And dear God, please do not stop there, Lead me in the way everlasting.
What a wonderful challenge for this year 2010. It is my prayer that you allow God to completely use you. He will not abuse you or intimidate you as He providentially conducts His search of you. He wants you to be able to travel in green pastures and lead you beside still waters. He wants to place His stamp of certification upon your life so you are cleared for open skies, waters and blessings
