Generation 228 to gather the youth to worship at 'Outpouring'

By STAFF WRITER ~ The Nassau Guardian:

"Generation 228: The Awakening of a Generation" kicks off again this Friday, November 20 with a call to young people to discover all God has in store for them.

Generation 228's "Outpouring Worship Gathering" begins at 7:30 p.m. at the Diplomat Centre on Carmichael Road.

The worship extravaganza will feature the 228 Worship Band, James Hepburn, Dano Rolle and Manifest.

The Generation 228 theme for the evening, which is also an ongoing theme for the organization itself, is based on Joel 2:28.

"It says that in the last days I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh. Your sons and your daughters, they'll start having dreams and visions," said Ashley Brown, the executive director for Generation 228, Bahamas.

For three years the multi-denominational youth organization has gathered people together for a worship experience intended to unearth the spiritual gifts and talents of those present.

"Outpouring" returns with the same goals and a group of artists to facilitate the event. In addition to the praise segment and the featured artists will be poetry, rap and dance. There will also be sharing.

"We'll have the young people get up and start talking about scriptures that the Lord has put in them, things that have moved them," said Brown.

Generation 228 was established by Winslow and Diana Johnson. Former youth pastors at Calvary Temple in Freeport, the Johnsons are now based at Bahamas Faith Ministries International.

"They had a vision for us to help lead the young people into their gifts and develop their spiritual gifts," said Brown.

Since its formation the group has led mission trips to Bimini, Abaco, Grand Bahama and the Cayman Islands.

Friday night's event is what the organization terms a "wake-up call."

"After we are finished this we begin to put people into their gift areas," said Brown.

"We help people find their gifts. If somebody isn't involved in a local church we try to target them and help them to find their gifts."
