Beres returns

No one in The Bahamas will be "Putting up resistance" on Nov. 22 when Beres Hammond and Friends take to the stage for the 2008 Above the Rim Productions concert "A Night of Love." This event will actually be Hammond's first local concert in four years.

Set to take place at Wyndham Nassau Resort on Saturday, November 22, this concert is sure to hit the country by storm, especially as Hammond will be backed by Morgan Heritage, Tarrus Riley, Sammi Star, Jahem, and Comedian Damon Williams — the host of the event.

"This event is all about experiencing a night of love," explains Mr. Grem of Above The Rim Productions. "It's all about coming out and enjoying a night of relaxation and fun. We want people to come out, have a great time, enjoy the show and try to celebrate a night of love.

"You see we decided it was time for Beres to return because the timing is right. We think that there is just a need to express love in The Bahamas. You see there's so much negativity going on in the islands of The Bahamas, and you keep hearing about these things when you turn on the news. I think people need an uplifting event and Beres is it. So with his hits like 'Moment is Time', 'Love has no Boundaries', and 'Sweet Lies', he's really going to steal the show."

Considered to be Jamaica's greatest practicing singer/songwriter, anyone who has listened to Beres' CDs or experienced the passion elicited by his live performances would undoubtedly agree with that top-ranking assessment.

Hammond, who has been producing reggae music for over 35 years, has just completed his 25th album entitled "A Moment In Time" and plans to keep on going although he doesn't call himself a reggae artist.

"Reggae is my foundation so I give much respect and love to it, but I don't call myself a reggae singer, the Father would never forgive me for that," said the 53- year-old singer/songwriter/producer in a recent press release, which can be found on his website.

"I sing what feels good, so any which form the music comes in, a hard-core reggae vibe or a little more subtle, you find a rhythm that complements what you are saying. When I started out, I never saw R&B, reggae, ballads, no, I just knew I had a voice and I wanted to make music that fits the voice.

"There is so much of myself in every song I do," he added. "When you go into the studio, producers say you have to get into this kind of beat, but my thing is different. I just record a song in the manner it comes to me. I don't change nothing, and it always seems not to be wrong, yuh know?"
